EVOLVING NOTES

EVOLVING NOTES

Ideas I am still working through.

Reading, teaching, and fieldwork have changed some of my questions. These notes record where my thinking stands now.

AYDEN CONVERSES

FROM READING TO WRITING

Writing about books taught me to stay with a question before rushing to an answer.

Questions drawn from ENTEN and Ngọc Linh

Hoang’s working notes · translated and edited

01 · WHAT COUNTS AS PROGRESS?

Was helping students enter specialized schools the endpoint?

ENTEN began with a clear goal. Then I wondered what our work meant for a student who remained curious and persistent but did not get the admission result they hoped for. If I created a test to identify those qualities, would I simply be replacing one score with another?

02 · WHO GETS HEARD?

“their voice holds the same weight as mine”

I wrote this about working with a team. At Ngọc Linh, listening required something more: noticing when my instructions were unclear, when a student needed time, and when my own experience was a poor guide to theirs. I am still learning how to make room for answers different from the ones I expected.

I watch Eurovision for the music, but the votes catch my attention too. Why do the patterns change so much from one year to another? I would like to explore that question through mathematics someday. For now, it is a curiosity I keep returning to.

I see myself as a counselor, listener and supporter, who is reliable, concerned.
